FAQs

Why is your FAQs section so small?

Tags:

Our FAQs section is quite small in its current state because it's really hard to ask questions about a topic you already know all the answers to. What other things do you wonder about HaloDev as a team? You can let us know by sending us some feedback and we'll do our best to get your question answered and added here.

Submitted questions should be unrelated to Prometheus (there's another FAQs section for those) and be mature. If you fail to follow these very basic rules, you may be banned from the site.

Can I work with you?

Tags:

Short answer: It depends.

We're glad that people are eager to contribute to this project and we understand that there are many talented people in the Halo community. With this said, we are not an open source project and we are not into the idea of welcoming every person that can code into our projects. We feel that a smaller, more tightly nit group of people can function together better than a horde of people that have occasionally said hello to each other.

I want your source code.

I want your.....source code

No. As much as we love George Michael, you can't have our source code.

Do you accept donations?

Tags:

At this time we do not have any donation system setup. Up to this point, we've absorbed all costs related to development and will continue to do so as necessary.

Once Prometheus is released, we will accept donations; until it is released, we feel it is morally wrong to accept donations for what you are unable to use. Future donations will go towards domain name and hosting costs, as well as library fees associated with Prometheus development.

How can I contact you?

Tags:

For some reason, you may have need to contact us directly to ask us a question not suitable for the FAQ. Please note that you should NOT contact us for any of the following reasons:

  • Help using Prometheus. We've got plenty of resources just waiting for your attention. Prometheus comes with documentation and if that's not enough, you can head to the forums with support issues.
  • Help scripting / creating tags / designing maps. There's plenty of help documentation included with Prometheus on these topics.
  • Sharing map ideas or asking for help with maps. We care, just not enough to want to read it in our inbox, use the forums.
  • Requesting we put news on the front page to promote a map or project you're doing. We're not that sort of website, use HaloMods instead.

If you're contacting us for any of the above reasons, don't. Your message will just be deleted and you won't receive a reply. We would love to have 72 hours in a day and we would love for the human body to have enough energy to last days that long; we can't all have what we want, can we?

Why do you do this?

Tags:

We do this because we like to. We all love the Halo series; at the same time, we like to see what can be done with the engine and what kinds of new content users can create. The Halo engine is an amazing piece of work and being able to create an interface between creative people and the engine itself is a remarkable experience.

Who are you guys?

Tags:

Well, as you might have guessed, the name HaloDev is short for Halo Development. Before going any further I need to stress that it does not mean "Halo Developers" as we are in no way affiliated with Bungie/Microsoft or Gearbox and never have been; do not think we are them or that they are responsible for anything we do (don't go asking them for support on our projects, that would just annoy them).

Those who make up HaloDev are from all over the United States, with two members in the UK. We're not a business, organization, charity, or whatever else you can think of, unless you think we're a group of guys who love Halo as a game and as an engine, because then you would be right.
