Involvement in Prometheus
Total strangers constantly ask me (even on Xbox Live) "When is the new SparkEdit coming out??!" Bah. Silly fools, the SparkEdit source code was stolen by a band of Scottish "Football" Hooligans sometime earlier this year. Yes, it's true. SparkEdit is dead. But in the ashes of what remained rises a more refined, stylish application. With pretty buttons. And more features that noobs can misuse. And a nice shrubbery that isn't too tall. Prometheus.
My early role in Prometheus was as a .NET hater. MonoxideC and I spent months fighting over which direction we would go, and I even went so far as to start a C++ and MFC implementation. I don't know what happened, but now we are using C#. I think they must have drugged me or sent me a case of my favorite beer. So now I'm coding C# and doing cool stuff with animations, and trying to figure out how to architect this massive project so that it will get finished soon.
I can be seen writing BSP code and other cool stuff. My other job is to keep Nick from going crazy with new ideas and features. For this, I use a small stun gun. [Ed. Note: In my defense, all my ideas are cool and Gren just isn't man enough to implement them all.]
You May Remember Me From ...
I'm that guy that you stabbed with the energy sword on Lockout. Yes, I love being the object of perpetual abuse from people half my age. You might also know me as the guy that started HaloMods.com (along with some help from a few friends). It started way back in August of 2003 as a feeble attempt for devs and modders to show off their work. I guess people like it since it is still around eating up bandwidth like a starving monkey released into a banana factory.
In the early days of "Halo Map Expander", I was the one trying to figure out the BSP trees. I eventually gave up on HME because I am a guy that truly does love Cygwin. People who are forced to use Cygwin will laugh, the other %99.99999999 will wonder what the hell I am talking about.
I did a couple of other projects too. SparkEdit was something I worked relentlessly on for months and months. It was originally meant to be a BSP Viewer to help mappers waiting for the HEK to see how maps were made by Bungie. But then those silly users kept asking for more and more features to move stuff around in maps and who knows what. Most people blame SparkEdit for the "Great Log Mod Flood of 2004" where users were making ridiculous buildings and ramps (among other things) out of logs. I am proud of that Log Jam, it still brings a tear to my eye to think of the hundreds of crappy mods I inspired.
Hmm...what else. Oh yeah, I worked with KaptainKommie on Sentinel. This was an app where users could register their mods and servers at a central database, and the application would verify you had all the maps the server was running. If you didn't, you could download them. And you couldn't cheat like most people do with HaloPC. And you could see if your friends were playing. And some other really cool stuff.
Other than that, you may see me playing Battlefield 1942 or Desert Combat. So much fun blowing up vehicles.
